Lamination plates for official security documents (driving licenses, identity cards, passports)
Official security documents such as identity cards, passports and driving licenses have to allow a simple but very precise identification of the person holding them. For this reason, clearly identifiable security features are vitally important in these documents.
Sample plate with security features
In response to the very stringent international security requirements that now need to be met by official security documents, the development department of VTT Verschleißteiltechnik GmbH set about developing especially high-quality lamination plates with three-dimensional surfaces and features that guarantee the production of secure documents that cannot be forged.
For many years now, VTT Verschleißteiltechnik GmbH has had the expertise to manufacture high-tech lamination plates with MLI (horizontal) and CLI (vertical) lenses in a highly precise tolerance range of less than 5 µm. MLI and CLI lenses on lamination plates can be either raised or indented.
Radii of the MLI and CLI lenses: R = 60µm, 90µm, 100µm, 120µm, 150µm, 160µm, 170µm, 180µm, 200µm, 220µm. Further radii on request.
Engraving:
Sophisticated technical procedures are used to engrave the finest surface lines both positively or negatively in the lamination plates to represent country contours or other motifs. The smallest line width is a mere 40 µm.
Microlettering:
Microlettering with a font size of 0.2 mm - illegible to the human eye without a magnifying glass - is applied to the surfaces of the lamination plates with extreme precision.
Positioning Systems:
In all lamination plates from VTT Verschleißteiltechnik GmbH, a special positioning system ensures the precise transfer of the security features from the lamination plate to the laminate.
Braille Lettering:
The precise, burr-free production of Braille dots made it possible for the first time to manufacture 48 cards in a single pressing with the highest quality. The Braille dots, for example on bank cards, health insurance cards and government ID cards, are notable for their high level of uniformity in height, diameter and radius.
Vautrol Non-Stick Coating:
In order to prevent the laminates from sticking together and to reduce electrostatic charging, all lamination plates can additionally be treated with VTT-Vautrol Non-Stick Coating" .
Sample design
The following table shows the lamination plate materials and surfaces available:
Quality Assurance:
All lamination plates are electronically measured for quality assurance and the measured results are documented in protocols.
For example with a radius of 90 micron and a depth of 70 micron a top foil of 200 micron, with which the MLI/CLI will function perfect
The principle is that the laser beam is focused by the lenses in the laser sensitive layer.
This laser sensitive layer (2) could be a part of the Duplex foil from Bayer. This Duplex foil consists of 100 micron white (3) and 50 micron transparent laser sensitive (2) polycarbonate.
The transparent top foil (1), which is not laser sensitive, has to be approximately of the same thickness as the diameter (2x radius) of the lens.
Radius 180 micron: top foil approximately 360 micron
Radius 120 micron: top foil approximately 240 micron
Radius 90 micron: top foil approximately 180 micron
Formula distance calculation for MLI's/CLI's: R= Radius=90µm / T=Depth=70µm / A=Distance 175µm
